About SoundPaint
My name is Amy, and thank you for taking the time to look over my page, listen to my tunes, and get a sense of who I am.
I deeply believe that song writing stems from a creative, exploratory approach, where sound makes you laugh, cry, think, anything we humans can reach with our emotions, and express ourself with color and light at a supersonic rate. Notes are my colors, and I use them to paint the full gamut of what we feel.
About me
I have been formally studying music since I was 10 (my first instrument was the flute) , but really discovered my musical identity when (after years of playing the guitar like a bass player) I picked up the electric bass (and I truly believe that every person who desires to play music has an instrument soul mate). It was then I decided to go to college to study the bass (and music education). My love of sound however has always been present. My dad used to bring home synthesizers to enhance when I was little (he was an electrician and brilliant musician), and he would let me explore and play any chance I had. My love for sound and synthesizers really started then.
I am all too familiar with the desire to perform music, but feeling at a loss to start. After many MANY years putting myself through college for first Music Performance, the Music Education, I felt stuck in a perpetual position of always learning, and always teaching (I should mention that I have over 15 years of experience teaching music formally and informally), but rarely performing... enough at least. A very wise professor of mine once told me that the saying "those who can't do, teach" does not apply to musicians and music teachers. As a music teacher, I am always looking for opportunities to both teach and perform, and I believe any good community of musicians are perpetually learning from one another as well.
I have taught at music stores, public schools, and private lessons, and one thing I have learned is that people, musicians need an opportunity to work on their craft and grow without fear of eyes and ears on them. And so I created SoundPaint LLC as a safe escape from those who would criticize you (even yourself to an extent), and observe your current abilities and make a snap decision of all you're capable of.
